Moderator stoles for the PCUSA 224th General Assembly

Previously posted June 22, 2020 — As we are finding a lot of new ways to handle long standing traditions the PCUSA 224th General Assembly found itself in just that boat this week. The assembly was to gather to elect new co-moderators in Baltimore. But alas in an unprecedented way they gathered virtually instead.

Rev. Dr. J Herbert Nelson, Stated Clerck PCUSA presents the stoles

This is the fifth time Carrot Top Studio has been commissioned to create the stoles for the moderator/moderators of this group. You may read about the past commissions here , here, and here.

The PCUSA seal is comprised of the basic symbols of a cross, scripture, and the Holy Spirit. But if you look closely you can also find a triangle for the Trinity, a fish, and a baptismal font or a communion chalice.

This cross is modified from the state of Maryland flag.

The General Assembly theme from Romans 12:2 is depicted with the Bible, heart and plant to indicate hope of growth beyond institution.

The Maryland crab, water and Baltimore skyline are important imagery to represent the host city.

We wish newly elected Elona Street-Stewart and Rev. Gregory Bentley the very best as they begin a new journey in their ministry. We will be praying for them as they have requested — for stamina, perseverance and patience.
