Poinsettia Christmas Clergy Stole

The first task in a new design is finding inspiration. That can come from many places! This new Christmas stole design was inspired by these beautiful gold fabrics, a friend’s inquiry and a memory.
The memory was of using this book by Tomie dePaola when I taught elementary art. The children learned so much better when I could make connection to art projects with literature, music, history and other disciples. And I loved circling even the big fifth graders up around me to read a book.
The nudging was by a friend who had recently retired from teaching high school Spanish. She inquired if I knew about the tradition of Las Posadas and if I’d ever embellished a stole with poinsettias.
So create we did! The gold fabrics and threads and hand painted details in the flower are stunning! See the entire stole here.
