Red Clergy Stoles

Why red stoles? Red stoles signify the work of the Spirit. The fire of the Spirit coming to cleanse and enlighten is symbolic in this very vibrant color. Carrot Top Studio designates red stole designs as either for Pentecost or Ordination but really most of these designs are interchangeable so we hope you’ll consider them all for your needs.

Why a dove as a symbol for the Holy Spirit? The dove is a symbol for the Holy Spirit inspired by Jesus’ baptism. The dove has been used among many Christians as a symbol for the Holy Spirit as well as a general symbol for peace, purity and new beginnings.

Why the imagery of wind? Representing God’s first breath of love into all of creation. A “driving wind” surrounded the apostles on that first Pentecost to strengthen them in their faith. The symbol of the wind strengthens and challenges God’s people on their faith journey.

And then there is the zeal of the Spirit! Doesn’t this amazing batik fabric border encompass that?

It’s a fun artistic challenge to visually connect the story of Pentecost and the Holy Spirit in many different ways. See our collection to shop for the right stole for your minsitry!
