Church Arts Committees

Forming an arts committee can be a great way for a church to engage with the arts and create meaningful experiences for its members. Here are some tips to consider when forming an arts committee:

Committee work should be fun! Yes?

  1. Define the purpose: Start by defining the purpose and goals of the arts committee. What do you hope to achieve through the arts in your church? What kinds of events or activities do you want to host? Defining your purpose will help guide your efforts and ensure that everyone is working towards the same goal.

  2. Recruit members: Look for members who have a passion for the arts and are willing to commit their time and energy to the committee. Consider reaching out to artists within your church community or local arts organizations.

  3. Establish roles and responsibilities: Once you have a group of members, establish roles and responsibilities for each person. This will ensure that everyone knows what they are responsible for and help prevent confusion and overlap.

  4. Develop a budget: Determine the budget that the committee will have for events, supplies, and any other expenses. Be sure to communicate the budget to all members and make sure everyone is aware of the financial constraints.

  5. Plan events: Develop a calendar of events for the year and plan out the logistics of each event, such as location, date, and time. Consider a mix of events, including art exhibits, concerts, performances, and workshops.

  6. Promote events: Once events are planned, promote them through various channels such as the church bulletin, social media, and local arts organizations.

  7. Evaluate success: After each event, evaluate its success and make note of areas for improvement. This will help ensure that future events are even more successful.

Remember, the arts committee is a collaborative effort and everyone's input is important. With these tips in mind, you can form a successful arts committee that engages your community and brings joy and creativity to your church.
