The Donkey’s Divine Lesson

In the Bible, the donkey holds a significant role that goes beyond its physical presence. It teaches us a profound lesson: it's not about what one obtains, but rather what one leaves behind. The donkey's importance lies in the Kingdom work that awaits us, meticulously laid out in the Bible and delivered to us through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Are you listening?

In Luke 19:30-31,

we encounter an episode where Jesus instructs his disciples to go ahead and find a colt, specifically a donkey, in a nearby village. This donkey had never been ridden before, yet it was chosen for a purpose. The disciples were to untie it and bring it to Jesus. If anyone questioned their actions, they were to simply reply, "The Lord needs it.".

What strikes me is that the donkey didn't possess any extraordinary qualities or perform remarkable feats. It was merely selected. However, what sets this donkey apart is its unwavering obedience to a simple command: follow wherever the master leads.

Upon bringing the donkey to Jesus,

the disciples draped their cloaks on its back and placed Jesus upon it (Luke 19:35). Interestingly, Scripture does not elaborate further on the donkey's involvement. We don't witness the donkey reveling in the spotlight or clamoring for attention. There were no donkey selfies taken.

The donkey possessed a profound understanding—it was not about him. Rather, it was about the Messiah he carried—the Word made flesh, dwelling among us. It was about the message the Messiah came to deliver—the Light of the world, bringing hope into our darkest moments.

The humble donkey teaches us

the importance of humility, obedience, and serving a greater purpose. It exemplifies the notion that our significance lies not in our own accomplishments or accolades, but in the roles we play in fulfilling God's divine plan. Like the donkey, we are called to carry the message of hope, love, and redemption to a world in need.

As we delve into the significance of the donkey in the Bible, we uncover a profound truth. It is not about our individual desires or self-promotion but about embracing the mission that God has entrusted to us. May we listen, learn, and allow the example of the donkey to guide us in the Kingdom work that lies before us.
