The History of the Birthday Card

Who doesn’t love receiving a birthday card? The advent of social media and texting has made a paper birthday card all the more special. But how did this tradition come to be? Birthday celebrations can be found in history dating to early Roman times. The first greetings might have been made out of papyrus! Our contemporary tradition of birthday cards first made its appearance in mid-19th century Britain, shortly after the first Christmas cards were produced.

Personalization is what is missing from today’s electronic messages. It just doesn’t match what you could write by hand. The tradition of mailing birthday cards goes hand in hand with the first postage stamps and the advancements in printing. Originally these cards were a gift in themselves not an addition to a package as is often our way today.

Carrot Top Studio birthday cards come in a pack of ten so you’ll always have one on hand when the next special day rolls around. The donut design is cute and festive and you’ll love that the sprinkles decorate the back of the card too! It’s those little details that make Carrot Top Studio products unique.

Donut need an entire pack of 10 birthday cards? (ha,ha - that pun!) Check out the combo pack that provides a bit of stationery variety for all your card giving needs! See that option here.
